新型コロナウイルスの起源に関する情報を公開するよう求める法案に、バイデン米大統領が20日に署名しました。米情報機関は今後一定の情報を開示することが予想されますが、ウイルスが動物を経由して人に感染したという説と、ウイルスが中国の研究所から流出したという説で意見が分かれており、決定的な情報が明らかになる可能性は低いとされています。
成立した法律では、米国の情報機関を統括する国家情報長官室が、コロナウイルスの起源や、中国の武漢ウイルス研究所に関連する情報を90日以内に機密解除するよう求められています。この法案は共和党が主導し、民主党も賛成して上下院で可決されていました。バイデン大統領はこれまで法案への署名について意見を示していませんでした。
バイデン大統領は20日の声明で、国家の安全保障上の支障があるものを除いて、「できるだけ多くの情報を機密解除し、共有する予定だ」と述べています。
